Anxious Thoughts

If the LORD had not been my help,
My soul would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence.
If I should say, 'My foot has slipped,'
Your lovingkindness, O LORD, will hold me up.
When my anxious thoughts multiply within me,
Your consolations delight my soul."

Wow, can I relate to these verses. Don't we all have times when those anxious, worrying thoughts seem to overtake us? They tend to chase me all day, until I stop and remember Who is holding me.

I love the Psalms especially when the world is coming at me from all angles. Sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't "branch out" more in reading the Bible. But for me, sometimes it is simply medicine for my soul, and as we have varying types of physical ailments, our spirits can suffer in different ways as well. We can be bound up in bitterness, or beset with sin that wants to overtake us, or bowed down with grief. In the Psalms, I find comfort every time, and I thank God that He inspired those writers in the ways He did. No earthly philosphy or self help books can compare to the words that are written there.

Father thank you for your Word and for your Spirit. Thank you for the reality of Your love for me, for all Your children. Thank you that you know every thought that we have, and that your arms are always open to us, to bring comfort and reassurance of Your everlasting love.

Hi Maureen,

I also, as you know, love the psalms. I actually read only the psalms for some time when I first got saved (gasp! only the psalms wink)

Oh Lord, if though had not been my help ... isn't that true, we can but only imagine where & what we would be without Him. WE would definitely be lost, without hope! David said that his strength would fail (and light would be gone out of his eyes) We truly are weak in every sense without Him sustaining and living in us

Love Ruth

Maureen,
I can totally identify with what you are saying and you say it so well. The Psalms are my main source of help and comfort as well. If I had to give up parts of my bible, the Psalms would be one part I could not part with!

Maureen,
Oooo...beautiful post, my sister. I, too, love the Psalms. Such vivid, eloquent and colorful poetry.

I am praying for you, my friend. May father fill your heart and spirit with peace, serenity, hope and soothe your worries.

Blessings,

Thanks for comments all. Can't imagine anyone not loving the Psalms, can you? That would be like....not loving chocolate? Or sunny days? Or a baby's smile? Some things are just that precious. God gave us such a gift in the Psalms.

Leonard, I'll check out my recipes for Rose. Thanksgiving blessings to you.

Maureen,

I'd like to share this statement from a "Christian"-one of those lonely, obscure people who live in in constant pain, who does not know what it means to be able to use her physical body in any way except in pain and suffering.

"Loneliness is not a thing of itself, not an evil sent to rob us of the joys of life. Loneliness, loss, pain, sorrow-these are disciplines, God's gifts to drive us to His very heart, to increase our capacity for Him, to sharpen our sensitivities and understanding, to temper our spiritual lives so that they may become channels of His mercy to others and so bear friut for His kingdom. But these disciplines must be seized upon and used, not thwarted.
Trials must not be seen as excuses for living in the shadow of half-lives, but as messangers, however painful, to bring our souls into vital contact with the Living God, that our lives may be filled to overflowing with Himself in ways that may, perhaps, be impossible to those who know less of life's darkness."
